Something amazing has happened at the Miller-Dwan Medical Center. Thanks to a new piece of physical therapy equipment funded by an anonymous donor and the Miller-Dwan Foundation, Lisa has walked for the first time in two months.
The equipment, call the ZeroG Gait and Balance System is a robotic body-weight support system on an overhead track that allows patients to practice a wide range of activities without the risk of falling. It compensates for weakness and poor coordination permitting more intensive therapy sessions earlier in recovery. The ZeroG allows patients to receive the best in state-of-the-art care right here in Duluth without traveling to the Twin Cities.
We held an open house to show people first-hand just what the equipment can do. We had about 40 people in attendance, with three incredible patients who demonstrated how the ZeroG works.
