Caring Ways Cancer Resource Center

At a time like this, you want the world's best resources.

"You can't underestimate the value of having an expert right there for you. Being able to ask questions can help you learn what applies to your specific situation. So you can use the information to become empowered, and gain the peace of mind that you can actually do something."

- Lorraine Dahlin, mother of Julia Dahlin
who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 7.

The anxiety, confusion and fatigue of a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming. You may not know where to turn, how to make informed choices or what to expect next. That's why the Miller-Dwan Foundation created our region's first comprehensive Cancer Resource Center. Open to the greater community and built entirely with charitable support, it is a place for patients, families, friends and caregivers—for anyone and everyone—to find information, clarity and empowerment in their journey to better understand and cope with cancer. For anyone facing cancer, it is a resource that cannot be underestimated.

The center is located next to the registration desk of the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic Cancer Center. It features books, brochures, CDs, DVDs, and software programs that explore the clinical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of cancer.  The materials are geared toward helping patients, family members, and friends learn about and cope with the disease.  Materials are available for check-out, free of charge, to anyone in the community.

Other programs are also available through the Resource Center that focus on healing and wellness such as Renewing Life, Grieving Non-Death Loss, Tools for Getting Through, and QiGong/ Guided Meditation. Caring Ways also features the Beautiful You Wig Room where patients can obtain wigs, hats, and scarves free of charge. The resource center is staffed by a professional and volunteers who assist visitors in finding the resources they need as they journey through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Caring Ways was created with gifts from those who realized the need to share these vital resources. By those who have felt cancer's impact—and feel compelled to provide our region with the very best information and support for battling this disease. Now, we invite you to share. A gift in support of cancer education will help supply our community with the most recent and reliable cancer resources available. Your generosity will continue what was started. And have an impact for years to come.
